Remodeling or renovating your garage is a fantastic way to change the look of your home, and in some cases add to the living space your home has. And while there are some great things to be done in the garage, here are a few things we think you should try to avoid.
Choosing the wrong flooring:
Your garage floor puts up with a lot. That’s why it’s important to protect it. When choosing how to cover the floor in your garage, you want something that will stand up to the wear and tear it’s going to go through. So while garage floor paint may be inexpensive and easy to apply, you can likely count on it not lasting.
Storage:
Your garage can become a great spot to work on hobbies. This means that you’ll need storage not only for your vehicle accessories and care products, but you’ll also need space for your hobby supplies, too. To keep these items safe, and organized, be sure to not cheap out on storage. High-quality cabinets made from the best materials mean that you’ll have what you need right away, without having to replace it later.
Have a Plan:
Many people look at their garage as one big space and don’t think to make a plan on how to make that space flow. Cabinets, countertops, and your flooring all need to be taken care of, as well as wall, and even ceiling storage. How will this all work together?
Doing It Yourself:
While we are all for DIY, we also feel it’s important for folks to recognize that some work needs to be handled by a professional. We’ve all watched HGTV and those shows do great work and make it look easy, but doing it yourself to save some money can often lead to being further behind than you had hoped.
